Where else can I hand in empty batteries?
There is always a collection point for small chemical waste near you. Consider the municipality's recycling center. You can drop off your empty batteries here free of charge. There is also a Wecycle battery barrel in all stores that sell batteries or products with built-in batteries. And that is more than 3,500 shops and supermarkets in the Netherlands! You can quickly find the nearest return point on the Stibat website.
Why are batteries not allowed in the trash?
Batteries are classified as small chemical waste. This means that it contains harmful substances. These substances, including mercury and lead, should not be released into the environment because they are dangerous to people and animals. It is therefore important that empty batteries are not thrown in the trash or waste container, but are broken down properly. By recycling part of the used battery, useful raw materials are also retained and the environment is relieved.
Submission instructions
We make new products from the metals from empty batteries: from glasses frames to a bicycle and from a bracelet to a gutter. So hand them in and give them a new beginning. But how do you do that safely? We explain this below.
